The Betdaq £25 free bet is back

You may remember that Betdaq used to offer a free bet when you joined them, but this was discontinued last autumn. Well I’m pleased to inform you that I’ve recently been told that the free bet is back – hopefully for good this time!

Why would you join Betdaq? Well for one thing, lower commission. There’s no premium charge on successful accounts, plus they offer just 2% commission for bets placed in running. There’s also the possibility of getting better odds. There may not be as much liquidity as on Betfair, but there’s generally plenty for most people to get their bets matched.

And just like with the bookies, there can be differences in price betwen the exchanges which could see you get matched at moer favourable odds. It always pays to shop around for the best prices in the long term, plus of course you get £25 free.

Betting Systems Test Update

After another profitable day yesterday featuring a 40/1 winner, The Life System has made back everything it lost on Saturday and is back at around a 28% profit overall. Unfortunately as I mentioned before the system is being marketed with sequential price rises and tomorrow night the price will double. This is a bit of a pain in terms of my testing because the price increases are coming before I have had chance to test it properly – this is the main reason why I have been reporting back so frequently with the latest results on this system which I might not normally do.

I am not in a position yet to officially recommend it to you because I have only been testing for 10 days or so. The results so far have been good, there was one bad day on Saturday when I lost a chunk of the profits already made, but all systems will have bad days and I am impressed with how quickly it recovered. So those are the facts, the decision is up to you. The price goes up to £149 tomorrow night, if you want to check it out before then you can find out more here.

I have also been testing the Betfair Race Trading Formula on behalf of the guys at Free Bet Advice. This review will be published in the next few days. It will go on their site not mine, but I will post a link as soon as it is published if you are interested in this Betfair trading product.

When these tests are done I will take a look at some of the other products you have asked me to review. Please keep the feedback coming in so I know what you would like me to test next. Betting System Tests Update

I am currently running two tests as requested by readers. The first system I am reviewing is called The Life System by James Fitzmaurice. You may have seen some publicity surrounding this over the past couple of days as it has just been relaunched, which I assume is what prompted a few of you to ask me to test it.

The marketing campaign incorporates sequential price rises which are genuine (I’ve double checked this) - so it’s not just one of these things when they say “the price is going up at midnight” and it never happens. This is the main reason I am posting this early update because if you are interested in the system you might want to get a copy while it’s still relatively cheap.

The manual is very easy to understand and the system itself very simple to implement – so much so that I was not sure whether the system would be profitable when I first read it due to its simplicity. However, the results so far have been very decent and my £100 test bank has increased to £112 in 3 days thanks to some winners being found at massive prices. I hope this can continue.

I have managed to set up Bet Bot Pro to operate the system for me, so it just takes me around 10 minutes in the morning to set it up and I am done for the day (this could be done the night before instead I guess).

Of course I am not in a position to recommend the system to you yet until I have performed a full and proper test, so this update is just to let you know what has happened so far in view of the fact that they are increasing the price. Of course if it continues to profit at the rate it has done so far I will have no option but to recommend the system because a 12% increase in 3 days is not to be sniffed at.

For my second test, I have also arranged to test a greyhound laying service called “Psycho Lays Dogs”. I’ve yet to come across a decent Greyhound system or service and the past results of this one look impressive, so I am very much looking forward to testing this. I haven’t received any selections as yet but I will keep you posted.

Moving Forward – New Betfair price data, and how we can profit from it

Quite a lengthy post this, but bear with me because I think you’ll find it interesting and potentially very profitable.

It is a generally accepted fact that the markets on Betfair – especially the liquid markets such as horse racing – are efficient. What do I mean by efficient? What this means is that broadly speaking, the odds on Betfair are a fair reflection of the chances of an event happening. For example, a horse trading at 5.0 will win around 20% of the time.

What this means to us is that there is no value to be had just by blindly backing or laying horses based purely upon the odds they are trading at – this is why systems such as the Stable Income Plan are such utter garbage. But that’s a tangent I won’t go down today.

I’ve actually discussed market efficiency with no less Peter Webb (the founder of Bet Angel) and there is not much he doesn’t know about the betting exchanges.

One thing that Peter did point out though was that there are variations in this general rule. For example, you do see selections trade at 1.01 (which according to the market is an implied 100% chance of winning) and yet go on to lose. Likewise you see selections trade at 1000 (implied 0% chance of winning) and go on to win. The market is pretty efficient – but not perfect.

So with this in mind, I was very interested to see a new set of market data recently, provided by a contact of mine who is a professional exchange trader. It would appear that over the last 5 years, if you had blindly laid every horse at 2.0 or under, based purely on price, you would have made a very small profit AFTER 5% commission.

Now I am not suggesting anybody goes out and does this, because it would be an incredibly painful process involving huge swings when runs of consecutive losing bets would be encountered. But it is food for thought – there’s clearly a margin there at the lower end of the market.

And when you think about it logically, you can begin to see why. The lower the price, the closer the exchange prices get to the bookies’ prices. The bookies’ prices incorporate their overround, which gives a margin. The closer we can get to those prices when we lay, the better chance we have of making a margin of our own.

With this in mind, I went back over a random sample of my own bets and my findings were interesting. Around 90% of my profits came from horses I had laid at SPs of 2.5 or under. Slightly higher than odds on, but not by much.

So I have taken the decision that from now on, I will not lay any horses with an SP of over 2.5. Likewise I will never back another horse at odds of less than 2.5 (I rarely did anyway, but now it’s a hard and fast rule).

We know the areas where value is to be obtained, the challenge now is to use a selection process to increase the very small margin that would exist by just blanket laying all these horses, and attempt to gain a greater margin to make our efforts worthwhile.

Strike rate will suffer of course – these horses are at short prices for a reason and we must accept that some will win. What we are looking for is not a high strike rate, but value and an overall profit. So – and I direct this at the few moaners we still have left – if you can’t take a loss, don’t bet.

Back bets will continue and I will set a minimum price of 2.5 SP for these (so around 2.7 on Betfair).
