Could Birmingham City boss go to Fulham?

It’s almost unthinkable, but could Alex McLeish be tempted to take over at Fulham? The Betfair punters are not ruling it out…

Having been backed as low as 1.05 to take over at Craven Cottage, Martin Jol announced this morning he would be staying at Ajax – and the next Fulham manager market on Betfair is not quite sure which way to turn.

Inevitably, Jol’s price has flown out to 46.0 and it will only get bigger given the fact he has confirmed he will not be joining. That leaves Dave Jones as the favourite at 5.0 – and it’s hard to believe he will stay there though, given that Fulham have been generally linked with bigger names (although Jones has done wonders at Cardiff with a very limited budget).

Sven Goran Erikkson is 9.2, although surely if he was going to step into the west London hot-seat it would have happened by now, given that he was linked with the post before the World Cup kicked off.

A couple of out of work former Premier League bosses, Mark Hughes (11.5) and Gianfranco Zola (12.5), also feature prominently.

Interestingly though, there has been support for a current Premier League boss: Birmingham City’s Alex McLeish has been backed in to 11.5. And with so little time to go before the new season starts, you have to consider Ray Lewington, who has been left holding the reins since Roy Hodgson left. Lewington has recent managerial experience with Watford, and is currently available to back at 30.0.

We told you a while ago that USA coach Bob Bradley had been considered, and he can still be backed at 18.0 – given his contract with the States national team runs out soon, it’s not the worst bet.
