Rafael Nadal has beaten Fernando Verdasco in every one of their ten previous meetings – which is why he is currently around 1.09 on the ‘Daq’ to reach the US Open semi-finals. In their most recent meeting at the Monte Carlo final, Nadal strolled to a straight sets victory which underlines the huge task ahead of Verdasco for today’s quarter-final.

Verdasco’s best effort against Nadal came on the hard court surface at the 2009 Australian Open, a match he lost in five sets – three of which were decided by tie-breaks. The faster pace of Flushing Meadows’ courts have caused Nadal troubles in the past and the Majorcan has never been past the semi-finals here.
 
Since Verdasco’s defeat at the 2009 Australian Open, he has continued to show vast improvements in his game that has seen him rise to eighth in the world coming into the final Grand Slam of the season. This year he was victorious in his native country winning a title in Barcelona. As mentioned, he also reached the Monte Carlo Masters final in April. His recent form might lead some punters to back him at around 11.0 to finally beat his nemesis. However, the odds of an upset look unlikely especially given the head-to-head record. Verdasco has also just played a grueling five-setter against David Ferrer – so back Nadal to win it in three.
